Shiseido Selected and Awarded 2012 World's Most Ethical Companies Designation

Shiseido has been selected and awarded the 2012 World's Most Ethical Companies designation. The announcement was made on March 15 in New York by the Ethisphere Institute, a major U.S.-based international think-tank dedicated to advocating best practices in business in such areas as corporate ethics and corporate social responsibility (CSR).

Among respective companies that responded to a survey on corporate ethics and other relevant matters targeting approximately 1,000 companies in more than 100 countries worldwide, Shiseido was selected upon obtaining the a top rating. Shiseido was highly recognized in terms of its corporate sustainability and transparency. The Shiseido Earth Care Project, which is a companywide environmental initiative, CSR strategies and other specific activities that are focused on the supply chain were especially noted, as well as the Company's efforts to communicate its corporate stance to its stakeholders by disclosing targets and results. At the 2012 World's Most Ethical Companies Honoree Dinner held on the evening of the announcement, Director and Corporate Senior Executive Officer Carsten Fischer of Shiseido Co., Ltd. and CEO Heidi Manheimer and Vice President Jadzia Tirsch of Shiseido Americas Corporation were on hand to receive the award.

Over the course of 140 years since Shiseido was founded in 1872, the Company has been engendering the spirit of "serving our customers through beauty and wellness" as a fundamental principle of its corporate activities. As a company currently deploying a number of brands in 88 countries and regions worldwide, Shiseido has reviewed and newly established the Shiseido Group corporate philosophy entitled "Our Mission, Values and Way" in April 2011 with the aim of enhancing the solidarity of the Shiseido Group. Shiseido is also carrying out initiatives based on "Our Way," which denotes action standards that each and every employee should take to earn the trust of stakeholders. As for social contribution activities, Shiseido is also promoting various initiatives by designating women and cosmetics (beauty), culture and the environment as the three priority domains in which Shiseido is able to leverage its strengths.
Going forward, as a company deemed worthy of this distinguished award, Shiseido will conduct its business operations with a greater sense of ethics that extends beyond adhering to the laws and regulations of respective countries and regions or internal regulations.
